Foodie Heaven at Philadelphia's Reading Terminal

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting Reading Terminal, one of the country's oldest covered markets. Stand after stand of amazing handcrafted foods - chocolates, meats, baked goods, spices, prepared ethnic dishes, seafood, produce, ice cream, gelato, custard, diner food and much more - awaits the visitor and tempts the palate.

Started in 1893 the market has served downtown Philadelphia residents, workers and visitors for generations. But its origins actually date back even earlier to the 17th century when the town of Philadelphia was founded by William Penn. He consolidated farmers and "hucksters" into a certain area of town, then later what was now a much larger city of Philadelphia moved the vendors into a covered market.

Hours are Mondays through Saturdays 8-6 and Sundays 9-4. Located at 12th & Arch streets the market can be accessed by many different doors.

Come hungry and come ready to experience a place not too many Americans have had the pleasure of seeing.
